I love that Hampden-Sydney College is a strong, liberal arts college that holds strong to its traditions and values. Those traits are part of the reason I chose to attend this college. However, as shown through the studies of Jerry Logan and Janel Curry in "A Liberal Arts Education: Global Trends and Challenges" in the journal, Christian Higher Education, "among the signs of decline were an inability to meet the nation's demand for a 'larger, more expert citizenry' and a failure to shed its 'aristocratic origins.'" The focus of my research was to show that, yes, a liberal arts education is still very valuable and important, but when it restricts a student from fully capitalizing on gaining expertise in an area where said student finds valuable to his/her desired field of work, the entire mission of the education system fails to meet the demands of today's world.

Please view the below video to dive deeper into my research and for my thoughts on how this wicked problem should be fought.
